What’s the Global Program for Japanese Studies?

The Global Program for Japanese Studies is a minor program that enables students to acquire well-balanced knowledge necessary for preparing them to play active roles in global society. "skipwise" program established this minor program to help students attain vital knowledge and experience needed to succeed as high achieving global professionals in society.

Educational
objectives

The objectives of the Global Program for Japanese Studies are to develop “Knowledge Reserve + High Mobility” type of global professionals. “Knowledge Reserve” means accumulation of knowledge. Students will develop communicative competence to enhance their adaptability in the global community. They will be actively involved in their own learning through active learning classes. “High Mobility” means to gain multiple times of overseas study experience. Students will acquire knowledge of global issues and gain practical experience based on the acquired knowledge.

Curricula and four
academic clusters

The Global Program for Japanese Studies is an academic program composed of general education courses and specialized courses. Specific subjects that are useful to become globally oriented people are included in the Global Program for Japanese Studies.
The Global Program for Japanese Studies is composed of the following three clusters(For students enrolled in or after FY2020): International Japanese Studies/ English/ Study Abroad. Students will acquire knowledge by taking subjects from “International Japanese Studies” and “English” clusters. They will have opportunities to use their accumulated knowledge through “Study Abroad”.

Requirements

In order to complete the Global Program for Japanese Studies, students must fulfill the prescribed requirements on courses.

Requirements for the Global Program for Japanese Studies vary depending on admission year. If you enrolled in Chiba University in or after FY2016, your requirements will be 30 credits or more. If you entered in or before FY2015, your requirements will be 48 credits or more.

International Japanese Studies

“International Japanese Studies” provides introductory classes of the Global Program for Japanese Studies that aims to develop students’ multicultural competence and understanding about Japan. Students attain basic knowledge in order to make the most of their study abroad experience through this cluster.

English

English classes selected for this cluster are focused on improving students’ communicative competence in English. There are courses specially designed for Chiba University students by the British Council.

Study Abroad

Students will gain practical experience and develop their accumulated knowledge about global issues through “Study Abroad”.
