Global Minor & Certificate Program

1. How to gain a qualification in the Global Program for Japanese Studies

There are two options for gaining a qualification in the Global Program for Japanese Studies. One is the Minor Program and the other is the Certificate Program. To complete the Minor Program, you need to accumulate more than 30 credits from designated classes. If this is not possible, you may qualify for the Certificate Program. In order to meet the requirements for the Certificate Program, you need to collect 18 to 29 credits from designated classes.

If you take the Minor Program, you will be able to choose between Japanese or English. If you take all your credits on the Minor Program in classes conducted in English, you will be able to receive a qualification in the Global Minor Program. The certificate of the Global Minor Program proves successful completion of the Minor Program only in English. If you choose to take courses in both English and Japanese, you will gain a qualification in the Minor Program.

2. Requirements for the Global Minor Program

In order to complete the Global Minor Program, you need to take all 30 credits from classes that are designated as Global Minor Program classes. This applies to students who entered Chiba University in or after FY2016.

【Students who enrolled in or after FY2020】
There are three clusters in the Global Program for Japanese Studies: “International Japanese Studies”, “English” and “Study Abroad”. All the classes in the clusters of English, Study Abroad are designated as Global Minor Program classes. However, when you take classes from International Japanese Studies, you need to be aware that some classes are designated as Global Minor Program classes while others are not.

【Students who enrolled in FY2016-FY2019】
There are four clusters in the Global Program for Japanese Studies: “Gateway”, “English Communication”, “Study Abroad”, and “International Experience”.
All the classes in the clusters of English Communication, Study Abroad, and International Experience are designated as Global Minor Program classes. However, when you take classes from the Gateway cluster, you need to be aware that some classes are designated as Global Minor Program classes while others are not.
