International Experience

Students will improve their communicative competence and enhance their adaptability in the global community. The International Experience category consists of two subsidiary categories; Internship and Volunteering.

Requirements for the International Experience category

The minimum requirement for "International Experience" is 2 credits, and the maximum number of credits that can be included in the Global Program for Japanese Studies from this category is 4 credits. (for those who enrolled in or after FY2016).

Internship

Developed General Education < General Education Course

Internship programs are categorized in Developed General Education -Career development- (教養展開科目-キャリアを育てる-).

Specialized Courses and Graduate Courses

Some of the internship programs offered in specialized courses and graduate courses are included in the International Experience category.

Global Internship Program

Students have practical experience in local companies or NPOs for 2 to 3 weeks, or participate in Project Based Learning in companies to acquire deeper knowledge through exploration of real-world challenges and problems.

Destinations of past programs:
  • Indonesia (Culture and language program in University of Indonesia + Internship program in an advertising agency)
  • Malaysia (PBL in a financial company)
  • Hawaii (Internship about environmental tourism)
  • Hong Kong (PBL in a travel agency)
  • India (Internship program in an IT company)
  • PBL stands for Project Based Learning

Course description

In order to complete the Global Internship program, students need to take pre-course and post-course education in addition to participating in internship activities in companies.

  • Pre-course education is registered as a subject under the name "Pre-course Education for Global Internship (グローバルインターンシップ事前学習)".
    1 credit will be awarded on completion of the class.

  • Some programs (mainly spring program) accept Undergraduate 1st year students.

Global Volunteer Program

Students will engage in volunteering in NPOs or international organizations in and out of Japan for about 2 weeks. Students will have deeper understanding about the issues in global society, and gain practical knowledge and ability to solve problems through interacting with people in those organizations.

Programs in Japan:
  • Volunteering at Narita Airport, support for fair trade events, study support for students with roots in foreign countries, daily life support for volunteers from overseas
Programs overseas:
  • Digging wells, developing infrastructure, taking care of kids in kindergarten

Global Volunteer Ⅰ This class is for introductory level students. Students who are participating in volunteer activities for the first time will take this level.
Global Volunteer Ⅱ Students who have already taken Global Volunteer I or those who have knowledge and experience of volunteering or fieldwork will take this level.
Global Volunteer Ⅲ Students who have sufficient knowledge and experience of volunteering. Students who can go to the volunteering location by themselves. Selection will take place by the lecturer and volunteer organization to ascertain students’ level.
